Because we’re lactose intolerant, we often find it easier to digest milk products than other kinds of carbohydrates. This causes us to get sick more often, so we often end up being told we have lactose intolerance. But is this true? Is it really the composition of milk products, or is it the fact that our body’s immune system can’t distinguish between milk products and normal food? I’ll discuss this more in my next post, but we all need to be informed.
The composition of lactose is fairly straight forward, but most doctors are baffled about the composition of non-lactose intolerant bodies. Doctors are more inclined to believe that lactose is the primary source of intolerance because they say it is what the body is supposed to be making when consuming lactose.
The major difference is the fact that lactose is not a sugar. It is a sugar component of lactose-containing foods. Therefore, it is quite possible for someone to have problems with lactose. In other words, it is possible to have lactose intolerance.
The problem is that even though we think of lactose as a primary source of lactose intolerance, it is not. The body does make other sugars, but none are the primary source of lactose intolerance.
The lactose is so prominent in milk that it is part of the name of the milk in which it is produced. Lactose is a component of many dairy products, including dairy milk. Lactose is made by the body in the form of sugar molecules. They are transferred into the milk via the bloodstream during digestion.
However, the lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose, is not found in the body. Instead, it’s found in milk. And that’s why lactose is one of the factors that may contribute to a lactose-intolerant person’s condition.
Unfortunately, lactose intolerance is quite common. It is estimated that 10-20% of people suffer from an intolerance to lactose. There is no cure for lactose intolerance, but in many cases, the most effective treatment is consuming lactose-free milk products.
What we have here is a case of the same thing that causes those people with lactose intolerance to have a really bad reaction to lactose. First of all, lactose does not get digested in the usual way that we would expect. Instead, it is broken down into shorter chains that are then absorbed into the bloodstream.
Now that you have the basics down, let’s take a look at the full spectrum of lactose intolerance. It is the inability to digest lactose in its normal way. This causes a range of symptoms, including watery diarrhea, bloating, cramps, nausea, and even a weak immune system. In extreme cases, lactose intolerance could be fatal.
